Metal push button switches may have problems after long use. These problems will affect how you use them directly. So what can you do when a metal push button switch doesn't work well?
- Check the outside of the switch first. See if there is dust or dirt on it. Wipe it clean with a dry soft cloth. This stops dirt from ruining the key's bounce or contact. If the key gets stuck, put a little special lubricant (like silicone lubricant) in the gap. Do not use oil or other greases that easily collect dust.
- Turn off the power. Then open the switch cover. Check the metal contacts inside. See if they are oxidized or rusty. Use fine sandpaper to gently rub the contact surface. This removes the oxide layer and makes the contact good again. Also check if the wire terminals are loose. Tighten them with a screwdriver. This stops bad contact.
- If the spring inside the switch is broken or parts are damaged, and you have no repair experience, it's better to replace the metal push button switch with the same model. When replacing, make sure the power is off. Connect the wires the same way as before. Do not connect them backwards or miss any connections.
